The Local Lookout
This is the first installment of The Local Lookout which will highlight the lesser known and visited areas of Southern Utah. I will highlight outdoor recreation, events, and generally fun things to do and see in the area.
This month’s local lookout is the Guacamole Trail near Virgin, Utah. Although it is only about 30 minutes away from town, it feels like it is on a different planet. If you enjoy hiking, biking, or simply a nice drive on a dirt road, the vistas of Zion National Park are worth the drive.
Perched on top of a mesa overlooking the Hurricane Valley, the landscape consists of eerie burnt trees and slick rock mixed with large open fields and juniper forests. There are large deposits of petrified wood and plenty of cactus which are currently in bloom.
The trail is about 7 miles long and about 11 miles if you would like to explore some of the side loops so bring a lunch and a camera as the vistas are incredible! If you would like directions or more information, let me know!
